Would You Believe, Another Fantasy Draft?

by Geoff Young on March 18th, 2007

Here’s my latest fantasy draft. This is a 10-team AL-only Scoresheet league (with a maximum of two NL crossovers):

  • SP: Jeremy Bonderman, Josh Beckett, Kelvim Escobar, Chris Young, Scott Kazmir, Jeff Niemann, Kei Igawa, Jon Lester, Bartolo Colon
  • RP: Akinori Otsuka, Kiko Calero, Justin Speier, Octavio Dotel, Hideki Okajima, David Aardsma
  • C: Mike Napoli, Mike Piazza, Hank Conger, Kurt Suzuki
  • 1B: Daric Barton, Casey Kotchman, Chris Shelton
  • 2B: Jose Lopez, Aaron Hill, Jorge Cantu
  • 3B: Troy Glaus, Joel Guzman
  • SS: Juan Uribe
  • OF: Vernon Wells, Carl Crawford, Michael Cuddyer, Rocco Baldelli, Emil Brown, Travis Buck, Jeremy Reed

I ended up going with a fairly high-risk strategy here. Igawa, Lester, and Colon are the only starting pitchers I drafted. The bullpen could be strong if guys like Calero and Dotel can stay healthy.

I grabbed a lot of players who used to be hot prospects. Not sure whether that’s a great idea, but I find guys like Kotchman, Cantu, Guzman, and Reed intriguing. I could not resist their siren call. ;-)

I’ve got my first Yahoo! draft in just a few hours. Wish me luck. How are your drafts going so far this spring? I hope you’re not already looking forward to ‘08…

I always get suckered in by the rookies. This year it’s Daisuke Matsuzaka. I had the foresight/luck to select him last year in a keeper league so now I get him for $1.
