White Sox Sign Podsednik
The Chicago White Sox have re-signed outfielder Scott Podsednik to a 1-year deal worth $2.9 million. Podsednik enjoyed a fine rookie campaign with Milwaukee back in 2003 but — aside from an uncharacteristic power display in the 2005 post-season — hasn’t done much since.
Podsednik draws a few walks, but not as much as you’d like to see from a leadoff man, and his batting average isn’t high enough to offset the lack of patience at the plate. He’s fast but he doesn’t steal bases particularly well (at least, he hasn’t since coming to Chicago).
Podsednik will be 31 years old next year. If he’d come up 20-25 years ago, folks might mistake him for a star. As it is, he probably is best suited to a fourth outfielder role.
