What You’re Saying
I thought I’d try a little something different here. It occurs to me that not everyone reads the comments, and if that’s you, then you’re missing out on some good stuff. Here are a few of my favorite recent comments:
Marshall Clow on boring pitchers:
Any time Steve Trachsel, “the human rain delay”, is pitching - that’s a game to miss.
Unless of course Nomar is playing and the idea of Trachsel pitching to Nomar makes you laugh - that would be the AB that never ended.
Tom Durso on the state of baseball in Pittsburgh:
The real shame is that Pirates management has filled such a glorious ballpark with such wretched teams, year after year. Pittsburgh fans deserve far better.
Vegas Watch on the value of innings eaters:
…the only argument one could really have against the Westbrook signing would be that they should have let him go to free agency and tried to develop pitchers in their system to replace him. It’s not like they could get someone comparable at a better price on the open market.
Rain Delay on not understanding Moneyball:
Obviously someone hasn’t read it, or got the meaning completely wrong. John Schuerholz’s book “Built To Win” devotes an entire chapter to beating the wrong things into the ground. JS found a way to completely bash the book, and I don’t think he read it or maybe someone just gave him a second hand book review.
Thanks to all for keeping the conversation alive. I can talk to myself all day (and often do), but I learn a lot more from listening…

First off, thanks for the love GY.
I want to add one more thing about that chapter in “Built To Win”. He prattles on about SABR being nothing but a bunch of (and I’m paraphrasing here) number crunchers with computers and pocket protectors.
First off The Society Of American Baseball Research is more than just sabermetrics if one was to do the tiniest bit of research. I’ve learned more about the history of the game than anything else since I joined.
And he could’ve asked Pete Van Wieren as Pete is a SABR member.

Any time, bud.
“And he could’ve asked Pete Van Wieren as Pete is a SABR member.”
Well played…
