Vlad’s Knees
Apparently there is some question regarding the health of Vladimir Guerrero’s knees. Depending on whether you ask him or his manager, you’ll get a different answer:
Guerrero led AL outfielders with 11 errors last season. He said he would offer no excuses and said the condition of his knees “never affected me.”
And from Mike Scioscia’s spot in the dugout:
His knees got to a point last year where it certainly affected his defense… The questions about his knees have been answered. Our challenge is to keep it the way it needs to be.
I guess the important thing is that Guerrero is okay right now. Still, it’s a little disconcerting that player and manager appear to have radically different interpretations of what happened last year. Maybe Guerrero doesn’t want to “show weakness” or whatever, but it seems to me the time for posturing should have ended by now.
Is this weird, or is it just me. (And yes, I know I’m weird — that’s not what I’m asking.)
