Top Ten Stories at Knuckle Curve in 2006

by Geoff Young on December 31st, 2006

The end of the year finds me in a retrospective mood. In case you missed them the first time around, here are the most popular posts at Knuckle Curve this year as judged by you:

  1. Ruth Did It On Hot Dogs & Beer. The most popular post of the year was written by my predecessor and riffs on Barry Bonds’ pursuit of Babe Ruth on the all-time home run list.
  2. 2006 Gold Glove Awards Announced — Lucky Us. Not sure why this one did so well. All I did was diss awards in general and Derek Jeter in particular. Actually I dissed Creed and Being John Malkovich as well. Creed. Seriously, what was up with them?
  3. Is The Big Unit Losing It? Another of my predecessor’s posts. Like me, he misses Randy Johnson’s mullet. Dude looks weird without it.
  4. Nine Baseball Predictions for 2007. Very tongue-in-cheek stuff. Except #9. Baseball always will be the best sport on this planet or anywhere else.
  5. Frank Robinson CRYING? Wait, WHAT?
  6. Matsuzaka Headed to MLB. I’m so sick of this story. Er, I mean, hooray for Daisuke Matsuzaka.
  7. Intercontinental Cup. I’ve kind of gotten into international baseball lately. Maybe it’s because I had such a great time at the World Baseball Classic semi-finals and finals this past March, or maybe I just want to see baseball rule the world. Anyway, Cuba was favored in the Intercontinental Cup and they won.
  8. Harold Reynolds FIRED?! NO!. If I’d written this one, I would have added “poor coverage of West Coast teams” to the list of complaints about ESPN.
  9. Cubs Sign Lilly. I have no explanation for the popularity of this post.
  10. Who Throws a Knuckle Curve, and Why?. Ah, the one that marked my beginning here back in September. Not my strongest effort, but a guy has to start somewhere.

There you have it. Happy New Year!

I was the actual guy who made the “Ruth did it on hot dogs & beer” sign. I did a google and found your site and saw that it was the #1 story of 2006 at Knuckle Curve! I’m flattered. We got a big kick out of it … especially all of the press. We’re thinking of some new ones for when BOnds comes back this year in 2007. It’s going to be hard to top that one. One thing we are good at in Philly is sarcasm! Thanks again.

Awesome, Mike! Thanks for stopping by and saying hi. If you make signs for Bonds, be sure to let us know. That would be sweet. :-)
