The Tigers Bite Back with a Clump of Dirt?
The Detroit Tigers bounced back to beat St. Louis, 3-1 in yesterday’s Game 2 to even the series. Oh, and by the way, Tigers starter Kenny Rogers might have cheated for an inning. What?!?! Forever will this game be tarnished by the mysterious brown substance on the inner palm of his pitching hand. Rogers said it was dirt on his inner palm, but Rogers said a lot of things, only some of which have made sense.
Was it pine tar? Was it dirt? Was it feces from the resident cat that lives at Comerica Park (no, there isn’t one, but I had to see if you were actually reading)? Whatever it ends up being, Rogers’ masterpiece that is now spanning 23 scoreless innings will forever be tarnished.
According to Steve Palermo, Tony La Russa never requested that the umpires inspect Rogers’ left hand after the first inning. Huh? Why did LaRussa say that it wasn’t “important to talk about?” Rogers obviously had a substance on his hand. Whatever the case, the series is now even and we can only hope that neither team ends this thing in 5… why? One reason… Kenny Rogers, Game 6 starter.
