Rockies Re-Sign Carroll
The Colorado Rockies have re-signed infielder Jamey Carroll to a 2-year, $4 million deal with a club option for 2009. A utility player throughout much of his career, Carroll blossomed in 2006 as the Rockies’ everyday second baseman. Colorado manager Clint Hurdle, however, plans to take advantage of Carroll’s versatility, noting that “he will get at-bats this season while playing at second base, shortstop, third base and possibly the outfield.” Carroll, who turns 33 in February, hit .300/.377/.404 in 534 plate appearances last season and was considered a serious contender for the National League Gold Glove award at second base.
