Rockies Court Lawrence
According to the Denver Post, the Colorado Rockies are looking to sign right-hander Brian Lawrence. After being one of the most durable starters in the major leagues from 2002 to 2005 with the San Diego Padres, Lawrence was traded last winter to the Washington Nationals and ended up missing the entire 2006 season due to shoulder surgery.
If Lawrence is healthy, this seems like a good fit for him and the Rockies. Lawrence is an extreme groundball pitcher, and guys with a good sinker — Jason Jennings, Aaron Cook, Byung-Hyun Kim — have done relatively well in Colorado of late. Lawrence has no upside, but if his shoulder is sound, he’s a pretty solid addition the back of a big-league rotation.
