Poll: Joe Mauer or Russell Martin?
Today’s question is pretty straightforward. If you could choose one catcher for your big-league team, would it be Joe Mauer or Russell Martin?
Look, don’t talk to me about Victor Martinez, Brian McCann, or whoever else. They are fine catchers, but the guys I’m interested in are Mauer and Martin.
I have a slight preference for Mauer (yeah, the comp to Jason Kendall at the same age is a little disturbing), but I could see it going either way. In fact, the Hardball Times writers recently had their fantasy baseball draft, and I evaded the question by grabbing ‘em both. :-)
So, how about you? Which guy do you like better? As always, feel free to elaborate on your choice in the comments.

Since you wont let me talk about Heap (McCann), I took Russell Martin. The guy is an all around stud, and I think will be better over all than Mauer.
I think Mauer is good no doubt, but I have this feeling that these injury’s most notably last year are going to nag at him and force a position change sooner rather than later.

Yeah, the injury thing is a concern with Mauer. I’m a little surprised that the voting is so lopsided (9-1 as of this writing; yes, I’m the “1″). I really don’t see much difference between the two guys.

Maybe one of the reasons is that I’ve seen a lot more of Martin that I have of Mauer.
Both are young, though one thing Mauer has going for him to a point is he’s a lefty. Not that it makes that much of a difference. They’re the same age..so most of that really is a wash. lol

I’m not a Martin fan at all. I know, it’s hard to argue with the numbers, but the guy just doesn’t get to me.

I’m not a Martin fan either, mainly because I’m a Padres fan and he’s really good. ;-)
