Padres Sign Giles

by Geoff Young on December 24th, 2006

The San Diego Padres have signed second baseman Marcus Giles to a 1-year deal worth $3.2 million, with a club option for 2008 (insanely detailed analysis at Ducksnorts). Giles, whose older brother Brian plays right field for the Padres, hit .262/.341/.387 for the Braves in 2006. Over parts of six seasons, the younger Giles has batted .285/.361/.448.

Quoth Brian:

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen my dad with tears in his eyes. And my mom lost it. Her reaction was, “You guys get to shower together again.”

Uh, speaking of showers, I think I need one…
