Padres Sign Giles
The San Diego Padres have signed second baseman Marcus Giles to a 1-year deal worth $3.2 million, with a club option for 2008 (insanely detailed analysis at Ducksnorts). Giles, whose older brother Brian plays right field for the Padres, hit .262/.341/.387 for the Braves in 2006. Over parts of six seasons, the younger Giles has batted .285/.361/.448.
Quoth Brian:
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen my dad with tears in his eyes. And my mom lost it. Her reaction was, “You guys get to shower together again.”
