MLB Draft 2007: Padres Pluck Schmidt at #23
| Name: Nick Schmidt | Throws: Left |

With the 23rd pick in the 2007 draft, the San Diego Padres have selected Arkansas left-hander Nick Schmidt. ESPN2 guys praise his poise and makeup, note that he doesn’t have a real high ceiling — mid-rotation guy. Average fastball, above-average change, control isn’t great, “safe” pick.

What the heck happened to Simmons? I thought we would grab him. Seemed that he had a higher ceiling.

What? No Michael Main here?
I can’t believe the Padres picked another pitchability guy! URGH!

Main or Porcello would have been great here. Boras seems to be scaring everyone off Porcello. My guess is the Yankees will go for him at #30.
