Minor League Notes
If your team is out of contention already, there’s always the future. Maybe there are some hot-shot prospects working their way through the ranks to help the big club before long.
Earlier this week, Baseball America’s John Manuel chatted with folks about 2006 Minor League Player of the Year, Alex Gordon, and other prospects. If you’re pinning your hopes on names like Gordon, Delmon Young, Cameron Maybin, Philip Hughes, and Evan Longoria, you might want to give this one a read. Baseball America always does a fine job covering prospects and the minors, and Manuel’s chat is no exception.
Or maybe you can’t wait for the playoffs to start. No worries on that front — they’re wrapping up in the minors. Stacy Long talks about the Montgomery Biscuits’ Southern League championship, while Baby Backs covers the Tucson Sidewinders’ sweep of the Round Rock Express to win the Pacific Coast League title.
The other day we looked at the Arizona Fall League, where some of baseball’s top prospects will be continuing their development come October. If you can’t make it out to Arizona this year, Hawaii Winter Baseball makes its return after being on hiatus since after the 1997 season. HWB counts Colorado’s Todd Helton and Seattle’s Ichiro Suzuki among its alumni.
Of course, if you’re not ready to start thinking about tomorrow just yet, there’s always the big-league playoff chase.
Can you feel it? Baseball never sleeps…
