Meredith’s Streak Ends at 34
San Diego Padres right-hander Cla Meredith saw his rookie record scoreless innings streak end at 34 after surrendering a solo home run to the Dodgers’ Russell Martin with one out in the seventh on Sunday. Coming into the game, Meredith had allowed just three runs all season and none since coughing up two at home in a game against the Philadelphia Phillies on July 17.

Ok, wait. You said that baseball needed good names… what is a “Cla”?

You know, that is a good question. His first name actually is Olise. His middle name is Cla, and it is pronounced “Clay” (although folks around here have taken to calling him “The Claw” because of his recent dominance). Okay, so maybe there are some good names out there already. :-)
