Konerko Connects

by Geoff Young on March 4th, 2007

Watching my second televised game of the spring. Cubs and White Sox, WGN. Cubs lefty Rich Hill strikes out the first two batters he faces, then serves up a long home run to Paul Konerko. Hill fell behind on breaking balls, then left a 3-2 fastball down and out over the plate. Konerko hammered it to left-center, and it cleared the fence with room to spare.

Hill surrendered 16 homers in 99 1/3 innings for the Cubs last year. If he’s ever going to deliver on the promise suggested by his minor-league numbers, Hill will need to improve in that area at the big-league level.

Also, Alfonso Soriano has just crushed a leadoff double to deep center field for the Cubs in the bottom of the first. Man, his bat is quick. But you already knew that.
