Foulke Retires

by Geoff Young on February 16th, 2007

Veteran right-handed reliever Keith Foulke has retired. The arm miseries that have plagued him the past few years finally caught up with him.

The Indians signed Foulke in January, which I thought was a great low-risk move for Cleveland. Actually, I stand by that assessment. It just didn’t work out in this case.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Foulke because he got guys out with off-speed stuff. Sort of like Trevor Hoffman in the National League.

Joe Borowski, another off-season signee, presumably becomes the favorite for the Indians’ closer job.

[Tip o’ the Knuckle Curve cap to Fire Brand of the American League.]
