First Fantasy Draft of the Year Complete

by Geoff Young on February 19th, 2007

The other day we talked about fantasy baseball. Well, I’ve just completed my first draft of the spring. I play some straight Rotisserie ball, but mostly I’m a Scoresheet Baseball hound. Scoresheet blends the best of fantasy ball with the old tabletop simulations.

I’ve been playing since ‘93, and I can’t get enough. The main appeal to me is that owners are rewarded for fielding teams that would do well in the major leagues, and not for assembling a collection of stolen base and saves freaks. There is no glory in chasing after the likes of Willy Taveras, thank you very much.

Anyway, my first draft just finished. This is a 12-team National League only league. We keep 13 big-leaguers from the previous season and a variable number of minor leaguers (each one protected costs a pick toward the end of the draft). We’re also allowed to keep a couple of players who have crossed over to the American League. Here’s my roster:

  • SP: Brett Myers, Phi; Clay Hensley, SD; Ian Snell, Pit; Rich Hill, ChN; Adam Wainwright, StL; Noah Lowry, SF; Livan Hernandez, Ari;
    Jerome Williams Was; Brett Sinkbeil, Flo; Angel Guzman, ChN; Collin Balester ,Was; Manuel Parra, Mil; Mike Pelfrey, NYN
  • RP: Francisco Cordero, Mil; Salomon Torres, Pit; Jason Isringhausen, StL; Will Ohman, ChN; Armando Benitez, SF; Steve Kline, SF; Josh Hancock, StL; Royce Ring, SD; Josh Kinney, StL
  • C: Josh Bard, SD; Rob Bowen, SD; Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Atl
  • 1B: Lance Berkman, Hou; Jim Thome, ChA
  • 2B: Ray Durham, SF; Mark Loretta, Hou; Craig Biggio, Hou
  • 3B: David Wright, NYN; Willy Aybar, Atl
  • SS: Rafael Furcal, LA; Adam Everett, Hou
  • OF: Grady Sizemore, Cle; Alfonso Soriano, ChN; Bobby Abreu, NYA; Xavier Nady, Pit; Terrmel Sledge, SD; Kevin Mench, Mil

We’re going to score a ton of runs. The big question is whether that bullpen can stay healthy. Isringhausen and Benitez could come in handy, or they could be completely useless. We’ll see…

1 opinion for First Fantasy Draft of the Year Complete

    […] I’ve finished up my second fantasy draft of the spring (my first is here). This is a 12-team AL-only Scoresheet league (we can protect up to two players that cross over to the NL) . I lost track of how many rounds we were drafting and shorted myself a bit in the pitching department. I’ll be able to address that in the supplemental drafts, though. This should get me through the first few weeks of the season: […]
