Cubs Sign Marquis
The Chicago Cubs have signed right-handed starter Jason Marquis. I just have one question: Why would anyone sign a guy with these trends to a 3-year, $21 million deal?
| Year | GS | ERA | HR/9 | K/9 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2004 | 32 | 3.71 | 1.16 | 6.17 |
| 2005 | 32 | 4.13 | 1.26 | 4.35 |
| 2006 | 33 | 6.02 | 1.62 | 4.45 |
ERA rising, home run rate rising, strikeout rate declining. Hmmm…
Good news? Well, he’s only 28 years old and he doesn’t miss starts. Actually, with Marquis, that last one could be a strike against him.

The Cubs signed a marquee pitcher?
Oh, wait, that’s a Marquis. Never mind.
I can only imagine the laughters of joy from the Cardinals fans.
