Could Miguel Tejada Get Deported?

by Stephen Kersey on April 22nd, 2008

Miguel Tejada keeps finding himself in more and more legal trouble. His troubles started when he apparently lied about any knowledge regarding steroids. Former teammates Adam Piatt and Jose Canseco both say they discussed steroids with Tejada.

Even more damning, Piatt has produced proof that Tejada purchased steroids from him. If those claims by Piatt and Canseco could proven, Tejada could be charged with lying to federal investigators.

Recently, Tejada has found himself in even more controversy. After checking birth certificates in his home country of the Dominican Republic, reports surfaced that Tejada is actually two years older than his listed age. Recently listed as 31-years-old, Tejada was found out to be actually 33-years-old.

Additionally, there are now questions regarding Tejada’s real name. According to reports, Miguel Tejada’s name is really Miguel Tejeda. While that is only one letter difference, it could land him in even more legal trouble.

Currently playing shortstop for the Houston Astros, Tejada is off to a very good start in the 2008 season. He’s batting .342 with four homers and 16 RBIs. However, there is going to be a legal cloud hovering over him until he settles these issues.

While he’s already admitted to falsifying his age, his biggest problem is his apparent lying to federal investigators. It could come down to Tejada either giving investigators information on other players who took steroids or if he refuses, he could actually get deported back to the Dominican Republic after getting his green card revoked.

Check out this video of Miguel Tejada (or Miguel Tejeda, if you prefer) getting confronted about his real name and age for the first time:
