Bonds, a Giant No More

The San Francisco Giants will not bring back Barry Bonds back in 2008. Now that he’s passed Hank Aaron as the all-time home run leader, and given that the Giants desperately need to rebuild, this can’t come as much of a surprise to anyone.

Why Cheat? Why Not…

A buddy pointed me to an interesting article by John Brattain over at Sympatico/MSN on the motives for cheating in baseball. With all the fuss over steroids, HGH, and other performance-enhancing drugs, John asks the logical question of why cheaters do what they do. The reasons, although hardly surprising, are a bit disturbing and force […]

Ankiel and HGH

Yeah, so one of the “feel-good stories of the year” maybe isn’t. At least, that’s what some people think. Rick Ankiel, for his part, claims that he was acting under doctor’s orders when he took human growth hormone.
What do we believe? I don’t know. I’m pretty sure we’ll hear a bunch of stuff about Barry […]

Giants Claim Worst Record in NL, Bonds Homers Twice

Barry Bonds hit two home runs Thursday in a loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field. It’s a good thing, too, because Bonds’ pursuit of Hank Aaron’s record is about the only thing going for the Giants right now.
San Francisco is now 39-54 on the season and has slipped “ahead” of the Astros and Nationals […]

Bonds Homers, Giants Lose

Barry Bonds continues his slow march toward the inevitable. He hit home run #749 on Friday night against the Yankees, who beat his Giants, 7-3.
San Francisco seems to be the only place celebrating Bonds’ achievement, and even folks there might find it hard to muster enthusiasm after watching the Giants fall to 30-42, 11 1/2 […]

Ah, Yes, This Is Why the Players Have a Union

ESPN reports that commissioner Bud Selig is “leaning toward suspending” New York Yankees designated hitter Jason Giambi for the latter’s recent comments about steroid use. From the article:
After hearing of Giambi’s comments, Selig offered the slugger a deal: Talk to [lead investigator Sen. George] Mitchell and “cooperate fully” or you will face disciplinary action.
Is it […]

Bonds Homers, Giants Edge Closer to Fourth Place

Barry Bonds hit the 747th home run of his career on Monday night to help the San Francisco Giants defeat the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-3. Bonds’ two-run shot off Josh Towers came in the fourth inning and landed beyond the fence in right-center, some 438 feet from home plate.
The Giants, meanwhile, improved their record to […]
