Braves Sign Sturtze
Tanyon Sturtze? You mean, I finally catch up on my transactions and all I’ve got left is Sturtze?
Okay, we’ll make this quick. Sturtze is 36 years old. He has a career 5.21 ERA. Due to injuries, he worked only 10 2/3 innings in 2006. The Atlanta Braves have invested $750,000 to see if he can recapture the “magic” that made him a league-average pitcher for Tampa Bay in 2001. Leo Mazzone isn’t the pitching coach in Atlanta anymore so you can forget that angle.
What else can I say about Sturtze? He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, which apparently was hit by a big tornado in 1953, is pronounced (I never would have guessed this in a million years) WOO-STAH, and has an art museum.
Still doesn’t tell us much about Sturtze, I realize. But at least we know a little something about Worcester and I’m caught up on transactions. Woo-hoo! (Or should I say, woo-stah!)
