Bluffton Plays On

by Geoff Young on March 21st, 2007

I am so glad to see that the Bluffton University baseball team will play this season despite the tragic March 2 bus accident that killed five players. Obviously, what happened is horrible, but I think Bluffton Athletic Director Phill Talavinia nails it when he says, “It’s important they get back on the field and do what they love.”

I remember back to 9-11 and how grateful I was when baseball resumed after those events. At the risk of sounding incredibly sappy, there is a definite healing power in being out at the ballpark with friends. Even the people you didn’t know — we were all there for the same reason, to watch or play a game that we love.

My heart goes out to the Bluffton players and their families. You will find strength in each other.
