Best of Remaining Free Agents?
Jeff Sackmann at Hardball Times (full disclosure: I’m a contributor to THT and also a fan) has a nice overview of free agents who haven’t signed yet. Some intriguing names here. If Trot Nixon can stay healthy, he strikes me as a potentially useful guy.
And I know it’s probably not going to happen, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Craig Wilson land a starting gig somewhere. The last time he notched more than 400 plate appearances, he hit .264/.354/.499 with 29 home runs. That was in 2004. Dude is still only 30 years old. Why isn’t a team like the Kansas City Royals jumping all over this guy?

Wilson is a guy I’ve been barking about for a while as a possible bargain for someone. Wilson isn’t a guy to build around — not even close — but he’s a useful short-term solution. Injuries have kept him from putting up big numbers the past couple of seasons, but in 2004, Wilson hit .264/.354/.499 for the Pirates. Sure, he strikes out a ton, but he also can hit the ball out of any park. […]
