AFL Prospects
Hard to find stuff that isn’t about A-Rod or Barry Bonds these days (I just realized that “indicted” and “inducted” share all but one letter — yeah, I’m real quick that way), but here’s something kind of fun: Baseball America has released its list of Top 20 prospects from the Arizona Fall League in ‘07.
Cameron Maybin and Evan Longoria at the top should come as no surprise. Several others make sense as well. One name I didn’t expect to see near the top was Matt LaPorta.
I understand that LaPorta has jaw-dropping power, but weren’t there questions about his defense? And now he’s playing the outfield because Prince Fielder is at first base in Milwaukee? Seriously, if there’s one thing the Brewers need right now, it’s another guy who can’t field his position…

there were questions about laporta’s defense because the “experts” are morons. people who saw him play week in and week out for the last few years - and i’m among them - know that his defense was very good at first base. he’s very athletic, especially for his size, and he works extremely hard. i have no doubt he’ll adjust very well to the outfield - nothing to worry about there. he’s an all-around stud. :)

Thanks, Shannon. I haven’t seen him myself, so I appreciate the additional insight.
