More Mitchell Report

I’m working my way through the Summary and Recommendations. It will take me weeks to read this entire document, by the end of which I’ll probably hate everyone and everything associated with MLB. A few initial notes:

MLB was slow to respond to steroid issue. Although baseball is moving in the right direction, it needs to […]

Giants Sign Rowand

The San Francisco Giants have signed outfielder Aaron Rowand, previously with the Phillies, to a 5-year, $60 million deal. He’ll take over in center field for Dave Roberts, whom the Giants inked to a long-term contract last winter to play the position despite the fact that he wasn’t really a center fielder.
Rowand isn’t a bad […]

Orioles Ship Tejada to Houston

The Baltimore Orioles have traded shortstop Miguel Tejada to the Houston Astros for outfielder Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third baseman Michael Costanzo.
Headed to Houston
Tejada is coming off a .296/.357/.442 campaign, which is low by his standards but still pretty darned good. The downside is that he turns 32 […]

More Hot Stove Talk

I’m a little late getting this out there, but the folks at Hardball Times (myself included) have weighed in on some more recent moves, including the Andruw Jones and Eric Gagne signings. And yeah, I know that Miguel Tejada has been traded; I’m still thinking about it, should have something later this afternoon…

Howard Bryant at ESPN writes a detailed piece outlining the troublesome nature of this investigation (hat tip […]

Catching Up on Transactions

While we’re waiting for Kosuke Fukudome to decide what he wants to do with his life, we may as well catch up on some recent transactions, haiku style:
Nats and Yankees trade –
Clippard, Albaladejo,
anonymous arms
Cincy trades Buck Coats
to Blue Jays for Justin James –
who are these people?
Cards drop Taguchi –
they are So over that guy,
you wouldn’t […]

Brewers Acquire Torres, Who Mulls Retirement

There’s no denying that Solomon Torres is an interesting guy. He first arrived in the big leagues as a 21-year old back in ‘93 and didn’t do much. Then he disappeared after the ‘97 season, only to return in ‘02 and become a solid reliever for the Pirates.
Now Torres has been traded to the Milwaukee […]
