Markakis and Tejada

I couldn’t find any good videos for your viewing pleasure this week, so here are a couple photos I snapped during Wednesday night’s Padres-Orioles game at Petco Park in San Diego. The O’s should do whatever they can to keep Nick Markakis in Baltimore as long as possible. Dude has serious game.

Schmidt Done for ‘07

From Dodger Thoughts comes word that right-hander Jason Schmidt will miss the remainder of the 2007 season following surgery to repair, heck, just about everything. Jon also points us to an excellent article by Will Carroll (written in ‘04 but still very relevant) on the nature of labrum tears and recovery rate from them. It’s […]

Talkin’ Baseball at Suicide Fan

Once again, Aaron has been good enough to have me on his show over at Suicide Fan. We talk about the MLB draft, Roger Clemens, steroids, the National League West, Sam Perlozzo’s firing, and the recent trade that sent Michael Barrett from the Cubs to the Padres (more on that at Ducksnorts).
Go give it a […]

Sosa Hits #600

He isn’t the player he once was, and he’ll always be remembered as a key figure during baseball’s steroid era, but the Rangers’ Sammy Sosa pounded his 600th career home run on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs, the team that made him famous. The blast came at the expense of Jason Marquis in the fifth […]

Orioles Seek Wings

Something is rotten in the state of Maryland. The ballclub from Baltimore is in full free fall, and manager Sam Perlozzo has been let go. As everyone knows, when your superiors make poor decisions, you will be the one to suffer for it. Perlozzo ultimately couldn’t rise above his organization’s ineptitude, and now he is […]

He’s Not Fat, He’s My Countryman

Ozzie Guillen manages the Chicago White Sox. Miguel Cabrera plays (very well, I might add) for the Florida Marlins. Both hail from Venezuela.
Now Guillen is telling Cabrera to lose weight. Quoth the Chicago skipper:
When you’re getting older and you go down, they say you’re fat. Right now it’s, “Oh, he’s a little chubby. He likes […]

Cromartie Wins Wrestling Debut

Former Montreal Expos outfielder Warren Cromartie made his pro wrestling debut June 18. The lefty swinging outfielder, who collected more than 1100 base hits in the big leagues and enjoyed several fine seasons playing in Japan, defeated 63-year-old Tiger Jeet Singh in his first match.
Cromartie wore a baseball uniform and brandished a metal folding chair. […]

Baltimore Bullpen Blows

I have a hard time imagining that this is what Peter Angelos expected when he laid out serious cash to “fix” his team’s beleaguered bullpen. I wondered at the time what Angelos was thinking, and with news that the Orioles have placed right-hander Danys Baez on the disabled list due to a “forearm strain,” Baltimore’s […]

Elementary, My Dear Watson!

Brandon Watson, an outfielder for the Columbus Clippers, broke a 95-year-old International League record on Sunday by collecting a base hit in his 43rd consecutive game. The previous record had been set by Rochester’s Jack Lelivelt during the Taft administration.
As Taft himself once noted, “Failure to accord credit to anyone for what he may have […]
